Aqara, a company known for its smart home devices, has announced a major update focused on the adoption of the Matter standard within its ecosystem. This update will integrate over 50 types of Matter-enabled devices into the Aqara Home platform. The integration aims to simplify the management and automation of connected home devices through a centralized platform.
The company has also made its Advanced Matter Bridging feature, initially launched with the Hub M3, available on all Aqara Matter Controllers and bridges. This feature allows advanced functionalities of Aqara devices to connect with third-party Matter platforms. Eugene You, the CEO of Aqara, emphasized the company’s commitment to cross-platform compatibility, highlighting the value this brings to users by increasing flexibility and customization options across different platforms.
Aqara has historically prioritized interoperability in its product design, partnering with major platforms such as Alexa, Apple Home, Google Home, Home Assistant, Homey, and SmartThings. The company has also integrated Matter compatibility across its product range, including its Zigbee devices. Aqara has optimized its Thread Border Routers to support network sharing, enabling them to join existing Thread networks from other ecosystems. The routers will soon be able to communicate across different local area networks, enhancing the stability of the smart home experience.
The Advanced Matter Bridging feature is designed to connect Aqara’s unique functions to other Matter platforms. It allows users to convert features created within the Aqara Home app into virtual plugs and occupancy sensors that can be synchronized with other platforms. This option extends the capabilities of Aqara devices, such as AI detection in cameras and fall detection, to other platforms. The feature is available on all existing and upcoming Aqara Matter Controllers and bridges, including the Hub M3, Camera Hub G5 Pro, Hub M100, and others.
Aqara’s integration of Matter devices expands the Aqara Home platform’s compatibility with third-party Matter devices, facilitating sophisticated home automation. The platform now supports over 50 different types of Matter-enabled devices, making Aqara one of the leading providers of Matter interoperability. The update simplifies the connection and control of existing smart devices while ensuring future compatibility with emerging products. New Matter device types supported include robotic vacuums, air quality sensors, water heaters, and more.
