Aqara has introduced the Smart Lock U50, expanding its smart lock product line. This entry-level smart lock offers features such as Apple home key unlocking and Matter compatibility over a bridge. The Smart Lock U50 provides keyless entry options, including the use of Apple home keys for unlocking with an iPhone or Apple Watch. It allows homeowners to manage and share home access through one-time and recurring passwords, as well as NFC cards. Physical keys are included, and the lock has a USB-C port for emergency charging.

The U50 uses both Zigbee and Bluetooth communication and connects to the Aqara Home app for setup, lock management, and firmware updates. An Aqara hub is not required but enhances functionality by enabling compatibility with Matter-compatible smart home platforms like Alexa, Apple Home, Google Home, and SmartThings. This connection also allows for remote access control and integration with other smart home devices.

Key features of the U50 include auto-lock and door status sensing via a built-in gyroscope, a rekeyable design for existing 5-pin keys, weather-resistant construction (IPX5 outer panel), up to six months of battery life on four AA batteries, a Do-Not-Disturb mode, and easy installation with a Phillips-head screwdriver.
