Aqara Door and Window Sensor Review

I have quite a few of these Aqara Door and Window sensors at this point ( I think I have four of five of them at this point ). I happen to have mine paired with a deConz Zigbee dongle, so can’t speak to the built in automation via the Aqara hub. However, for me these have been pretty stable little sensors. Most of mine exist outdoors – watching gates to see if they have been opened and the garage door to make sure it is closed. They have been outside in some pretty intense heat for just over a year now with no issues reporting and 100% battery life left. I have had my power drop a few times, bringing the Zigbee network down with it. These sensors rejoin the network automatically within a few minutes of the network coming back online. A big bonus for hard to reach sensors.

Some people do report that this sensor doesn’t work with the Smart Things hub, and it won’t work directly with an Amazon Alexa, Google Home, or Apple Home. To work with these you would need a Zigbee hub that was compatible with them, like the Aqara hub.

Aqara Door and Window Sensor Review FAQ

What is the Aqara Door and Window Sensor?

The Aqara Door and Window Sensor is a smart home device designed to detect the opening and closing of doors and windows in your home. It is an essential part of any smart home security system as it provides real-time notifications and alerts to your smartphone whenever a door or window is opened or closed. The sensor is compact and easy to install, making it ideal for both homeowners and renters. Whether you want to keep an eye on your home’s security or simply ensure that doors and windows are properly closed, the Aqara Door and Window Sensor is a reliable and convenient solution.

How does the Aqara Door and Window Sensor work?

The Aqara Door and Window Sensor is a smart device that uses magnetic technology to detect the opening and closing of doors and windows. It consists of two parts: a sensor and a magnet. The sensor is installed on the door or window frame, while the magnet is placed on the corresponding moving part. When the door or window is closed, the magnet aligns with the sensor, completing the circuit. However, when the door or window is opened, the magnet moves away from the sensor, breaking the circuit and triggering a signal. This signal is then sent to your Zigbee hub which can alert you of the status change. With its simple yet effective mechanism, the Aqara Door and Window Sensor provides real-time information about the security and accessibility of your home.
