Aqara, a company specializing in IoT products, has introduced the Presence Sensor FP1E to its range of smart sensors. The FP1E sensor is designed to improve monitoring and automation for homeowners and operates on the Zigbee protocol. It supports Matter over an Aqara Matter bridge, offering compatibility with Amazon Alexa, Apple Home, Google Home, Home Assistant, Homey, and Samsung SmartThings.

The sensor uses millimeter wave (mmWave) technology to detect human movements, enabling accurate presence detection for various home automation applications. It can detect presence up to six meters away and monitor rooms up to 50 square meters when mounted on the ceiling. Unlike PIR motion sensors, the FP1E can detect human presence even when the person is stationary. It can also recognize when a person leaves a room, triggering automation to turn off lights and air conditioners to conserve energy.

The FP1E is designed for ease of use, focusing on providing precise occupancy detection without advanced features like zone positioning. It utilizes AI algorithms to differentiate between relevant movements and false triggers, filtering out unnecessary alerts from small pets and other interference sources. The sensor’s sensitivity adapts automatically, and its AI learning capabilities improve detection accuracy over time.

Aqara Home users can use the FP1E to trigger various automation scenarios based on human movement or stillness, such as sending notifications or changing smart light colors if the user remains still for over 30 minutes. The FP1E aims to promote healthier routines by reducing sedentary behavior through visual cues and reminders.

The FP1E is powered by a 5V1A power supply and includes both magnetic and adhesive-backed brackets for easy installation. The sensor is available through Aqara’s Amazon brand stores in North America, Europe, and Asia, as well as selected retailers worldwide. For more information, check out Aqara’s website here.
