SelectBlinds has submitted a notification of a data breach to Maine and California following a cyberattack that took place earlier in the year. The breach, which occurred in January 2024 and continued through September 2024, allowed hackers to access sensitive consumer information. In brief, the SelectBlinds website was infected with malware. This allowed the attackers to gather customer names, address, phone numbers, credit card details, and login information. Basically, anything needed to place an order or make an account with SelectBlinds.
SelectBlinds sells window blinds, window shades, and other coverings online. They also have smart blinds available. We’ve previously written about their SelectConnect bridge for connecting their smart blinds to various smart home hubs like Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and SmartThings. The company, headquartered in Chandler, Arizona, is a subsidiary of Hunter Douglas, a Dutch manufacturer known for its window coverings.
Although specific details of how their website was hacked haven’t been shared, it was confirmed that the breach involved an external system being compromised. SelectBlinds has completed its review to identify affected individuals, estimating that approximately 206,238 people had their information compromised.
SelectBlinds has sent out notification to the customers who were impacted by this breach, as well as reset passwords on all user accounts. However, if you’ve used the SelectBlinds website at all this year, you should make sure that your password was not being re-used by another website ( check out our post on How to Make and Store Strong Passwords ). We would also recommend a credit freeze, “just in case”.
