Emporia issued a voluntary recall of some of their smart plugs yesterday out of an abundance of caution. So be sure to check your smart plugs out if they are made by Emporia.

Emporia plugs sold on Amazon or shop.emporiaenergy.com between July 1, 2022 and August 1, 2023 may have a mechanical issue. This issue causes the devices from grounding properly, and may result in a shock or electrical fire. To Emporia’s knowledge, there have been no incidents regarding these plugs, but they are being recalled just to be safe.

Users will be notified via Emporia’s app if their device is affected. If your device is not connected to the Emporia app or not connected to the internet, you may not be notified. In which case, you should reach out to Emporia directly.

If your Emporia plug was purchased on Amazon or shop.emporiaenergy.com ( or if you don’t know where it came from ) can reach out to Emporia directly with any questions or concerns.

Dedicated customer service resources have been made available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. MT Monday through Friday via a toll-free line: 844-367-6742 (844-EMPORIA). To reach the company online, please email support@emporiaenergy.com or visit www.emporiaenergy.com/recall or www.emporiaenergy.com and click on “Product Recall” at the bottom of the page for more information.

Customers who have an affected device will be offered either a full refund or a replacement device.
