GM Energy has released a new product, the GM Energy PowerBank, which is now available for purchase. The GM Energy PowerBank is designed to work in conjunction with the GM Energy Home Hub & Inverter to provide enhanced energy management for users. This setup allows for the storage of power from compatible solar panels or the grid during off-peak hours, which can then be utilized during peak times. The system also integrates with the GM Energy PowerShift Charger to offer additional options.

The GM Energy PowerBank provides an energy storage solution that can be accessed during emergencies or when energy costs rise. It can store energy from the grid or compatible solar systems, offering users added security. The PowerBank is available in three storage capacities to meet varying needs: 10.6 kWh, 17.7 kWh, and a 35.4 kWh capacity, which consists of two 17.7 kWh GM Energy PowerBanks.

The PowerBank is compatible with GM’s Energy Home Hub & Inverter, which allows it to capture and store energy for user-directed usage. The system can be monitored and controlled via a smartphone. The GM Energy Storage Bundle reportedly provides up to 20 hours of backup for an average American home.

If this sounds familiar, it is. The GM PowerBank is a pretty direct competitor to Tesla’s Powerwall. Both allow users to store electricity locally, either from solar power or from the grid depending on what’s available. Then, when you experience a power outage ( or when your solar is no longer providing power ) the battery packs automatically switch to providing power.

This product is part of the GM Ultium Home package, which aims to offer residential customers solutions for increased energy independence and resilience. The Ultium Home products are the first to be introduced by GM Energy to residential customers, designed to provide backup power during grid outages.

The initial Ultium Home offerings come in different bundle options to suit customers’ energy needs and financial considerations. The Ultium Home Energy System bundle targets customers who want to use their compatible GM electric vehicle for Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) functionality and includes the PowerShift Charger, Ultium Home V2H Enablement Kit, and PowerBank. The Ultium Home Energy Storage Bundle is intended for customers wishing to integrate stationary storage without requiring an electric vehicle and includes the PowerBank, Inverter, and home hub.
