First Alert, a well-regarded fire-safety brand under Resideo, in collaboration with Google Home, has announced the introduction of a new life-safety product. This product, the First Alert Smart Smoke & Carbon Monoxide (CO) Alarm, is designed to work seamlessly with the existing Nest Protect Smart Smoke & CO Alarm. Users of Nest devices can now easily integrate the First Alert Smart Smoke & CO Alarm into their Google Home app, thereby expanding their safety coverage or replacing an expiring Nest Alarm with minimal hassle.

The First Alert Smart Smoke & CO Alarm is engineered to interconnect with Nest Protect Smoke & CO Alarms. This means that when one alarm is triggered, all compatible alarms within the network will sound an alert, ensuring that families are notified of potential dangers whether they are at home or away. In addition, the new alarm system offers safety checkups, critical alerts, and the ability to silence alarms through both the First Alert and Google Home apps.

Anish Kattukaran, Chief Product Officer at Google Home & Nest, emphasized the company’s commitment to creating a platform that simplifies the setup, control, and automation of smart home devices. The partnership with First Alert is seen as a step toward allowing users to manage a broader array of safety devices, enhancing the protection of their homes.

The new First Alert alarm is designed with ease of installation in mind, making it straightforward for Nest Protect customers to replace or expand their device coverage using the Google Home app. Further details on this collaboration can be found on the Google Nest Community blog.

The First Alert Smart Smoke & CO Alarm incorporates Precision Detection technology, which is tailored to detect fires more effectively in modern homes. As homes are increasingly built with open spaces and furnished with synthetic materials, fires tend to burn hotter and faster. The alarm features a broad Wi-Fi range, simple alarm testing, and a seven-day low-battery warning, eliminating the annoyance of low-battery chirps. It also provides voice alerts that describe the type and location of emergencies and sends mobile alerts for awareness when away from home.

The interconnected system of the alarm ensures that all compatible alarms sound together in the event of smoke or CO detection, providing comprehensive coverage. This system can also enable a non-connected First Alert alarm to interact with the First Alert app, ensuring users are informed of emergencies promptly.

Pat Tessier, Vice President of Product Development for First Alert and Honeywell Home solutions at Resideo, highlighted the significance of the collaboration with Google Nest in offering a trusted life-safety solution. The new First Alert Smart Smoke & CO Alarm with its dual-app experience aims to keep homeowners informed of fire or CO emergencies, whether they are home or away.

The First Alert Smart Smoke & CO Alarm will be available in both hardwire and battery-powered options in the upcoming months. It will be offered through U.S. and Canadian retailers, the Google Store, and on First Alert’s website. For more detailed information, check out First Alert’s website here.
