Hyve, a smart home delivery pod designed to secure deliveries, was introduced at CES 2025. The product aims to address issues of package theft and excessive packaging waste. With porch piracy resulting in more than $12 billion in stolen packages in the past year, Hyve offers a new approach to secure home deliveries. The company intends to reduce packaging waste and provide an alternative to the traditional outer boxes that make packages vulnerable to theft.

Hyve is the first branded smart lockbox, offering a solution for both consumers and retailers. In 2021, Amazon was responsible for producing approximately 709 million pounds of plastic packaging, highlighting the need for more sustainable shipping methods. Hyve seeks to offer a way for online retailers to cut down on waste while maintaining security. The CEO and Co-Founder of Hyve, Melissa Kieling, emphasized the need for a product that provides security and sustainability in the delivery process.

The delivery pod is designed to be weather-proof and can be secured to the entryway of a home or apartment. It features a carbon fiber cable tether and an accelerometer to detect tampering, triggering an alarm and sending alerts to the owner and their neighbors. The Hyve Security app allows integration with existing smart home security systems. Co-Founder and COO Brennan Naylor stated that Hyve is focused on eliminating package theft and ensuring a secure delivery experience.

Hyve can be connected via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi to the Hyve Security app, allowing various parties to use custom codes to access the pod for deliveries or pickups. Notifications are sent to the owner each time a code is used, ensuring transparency in package deliveries. A photo window feature allows delivery drivers to capture an image of the package inside the pod, aiding in record-keeping for retailers and providing reassurance to consumers. The product also supports the returns process by enabling software updates and partnerships with retailers to alert nearby delivery services of returns that need collection.

The sustainability aspect of Hyve is significant, as it encourages retailers to minimize packaging materials by providing a secure delivery option. The pod operates on battery and solar power, with an 18-month battery life, eliminating the need for regular charging. Hyve will be available for purchase in June 2025.
