Kwikset recently announced it’s new smart lock line, the Halo Select, that now supports Matter. Matter is a standardized protocol that allows smart home devices from different manufacturers to communicate with one another. This protocol enables the integration of Kwikset locks with various smart home platforms, facilitating the automated control of the locks alongside other smart devices. With Matter, users can manage their devices collectively through a single application, regardless of whether they use Siri via Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, or other compatible platforms.
Many leading smart home brands have already integrated Matter, enhancing compatibility across devices within a household. Kwikset has introduced the Halo Select, which offers remote access features suitable for family use. This device allows users to lock and unlock doors, share access with guests, monitor lock activity, and check door security remotely through Wi-Fi, without requiring an additional hub.
The Halo Select integrates with Amazon Alexa, Apple Home, and Google Home, enabling voice control and the creation of automated routines for home security. It supports Matter connectivity via Thread, which allows for an efficient connection of all smart devices. The installation process is user-friendly, requiring only a screwdriver, and is guided by an interactive in-app tutorial. The lock operates on four long-lasting Duracell AA batteries and provides notifications when battery levels are low.
Kwikset’s system supports up to 250 access codes for temporary, scheduled, or permanent use by family members and trusted guests. The lock features a geofence-based auto-unlock function, allowing hands-free entry upon arrival. Additionally, a slim door sensor detects if the door is ajar and sends real-time alerts to the user’s phone if the door remains open for 15 minutes. The app also allows users to verify door status at any time.
For safety, users can set the door to lock automatically based on a timer or location-based geofencing. The Halo Select includes two physical keys, with a SmartKey Security feature that resists bumps and picks, and allows for re-keying. The lock incorporates both Wi-Fi and Matter for flexible connectivity, ensuring functionality even in the absence of an internet connection. Devices connected via Thread can communicate on a dedicated network, maintaining operation during Wi-Fi outages.
