LG Electronics is showcasing its Self-Driving AI Home Hub and open Software Development Kit (SDK) at the Robot Operating System Conference (ROSCon) 2024 in Odense, Denmark, from October 21 to 23. The event is an opportunity for LG to interact with the global developer community and explore opportunities to expand its open platform ecosystem. The conference, now in its 13th year, brings together Robot Operating System (ROS) developers to discuss and present new technologies and ideas.

If you haven’t seen LG’s new robot smart home hub, the Self-Driving AI Home Hub, then you have been missing out. This adorable little robot has definitely been missing from your life. The robotic functionality is touted for allowing it to patrol your home for issues. Let’s be honest with ourselves though, with the way it looks I think most folks will treat it more as some sort of smart home pet than a robotic worker.

At its booth, LG is highlighting its SDK and Application Programming Interfaces (API) through demonstrations of predefined apps using the API Tool. The Self-Driving AI Home Hub’s features, such as small talk, storytelling, and reading sessions using Optical Character Recognition (OCR), are being demonstrated. Additionally, there is a demo session where developers can create apps for the Home Hub using the open SDK.

The SDK package provides developers with access to various Open Application Programming Interfaces (OPEN APIs) and programming tools, enabling enhanced control over the Home Hub and expansion of its software functionalities. The SDK supports ROS 2 and standardized interfaces. Available on LG’s developer site, the SDK also facilitates community interaction and features an application marketplace.

LG is seeking partnerships for collaboration and is offering engineering samples for joint development projects, pursuing Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) agreements. The company aims to maximize the potential of the Self-Driving AI Home Hub and expand its ecosystem as an open platform. Interested parties can apply for joint development opportunities on LG’s developer site.

Baek Seung-min, from LG’s Advanced Robotics Lab, will present a talk on the software’s architecture and SDK performance optimization techniques for the Home Hub at ROSCon 2024 on October 23. LG invites ROS developers to join its ecosystem through the release of its SDK, encouraging collaborative product development efforts.

Visitors to ROSCon 2024 can find LG’s booth (#19) on the ground floor of the Odeon Concert Hall. For more information, visit LG’s website here.
