LG Electronics is set to introduce the LG ThinQ ON AI home hub at IFA 2024 in Berlin, Germany, from September 6-10. The LG ThinQ ON AI home hub is designed to provide connectivity and expandability, serving as the center of a smart home ecosystem. It integrates LG’s appliances and AI to offer personalized comfort, care, and convenience. The device connects with various appliances and Internet of Things (IoT) devices, allowing users to configure and enjoy a customized AI-powered home environment.

This move is inline with LG’s recent announcements of investing more in AI and robotics.

The LG ThinQ ON employs LG’s Affectionate Intelligence, which learns from individual and broader usage patterns to tailor daily experiences. The device is compact, lightweight, and features a cylindrical design with a gray and white color palette. It includes an AI speaker for interaction with LG’s voice assistant and for audio content playback. The AI capabilities are supported by LG’s high-performance AI chipset, designed for future scalability.

Users can control their AI appliances and living spaces through spoken commands, simulating a conversational experience. The ThinQ ON understands everyday language and context, enabling it to determine user preferences for connected devices. It autonomously monitors the smart home ecosystem, informing users of task completions or detected issues. Additionally, it allows users to adjust appliance settings and configure automated routines through voice commands.

The LG ThinQ ON is Matter-certified and supports various network connectivity options, including Wi-Fi and Thread. It is compatible with a broad range of LG appliances and IoT devices from other manufacturers. LG aims to expand its platform by acquiring the smart home platform company Athom, which connects to over 50,000 devices. LG plans to enhance the ThinQ ON’s open platform by adding more supported brands and devices.

The ThinQ ON employs LG Shield, a proprietary security system that encrypts and securely stores user data, ensuring data protection throughout its lifecycle. LG Shield also prevents external tampering with operational code.
