Motionblinds has joined the Works with Home Assistant program as a partner. Motionblinds is the first to certify smart window blinds for this program. This development brings the possibility of creating a smart home using certified devices that are compatible with Home Assistant. The integration of smart blinds with Home Assistant allows for various automations, such as having blinds open upon arrival at home or closing sun-facing blinds during warmer days to maintain a cooler indoor environment and save money.
Motionblinds, a brand under Coulisse, has been manufacturing window coverings for 30 years in the Netherlands. The products are available globally and are recognized for their customizable designs and smart technology features. Motionblinds offers both all-in-one smart blinds and upgrade kits for existing roller blinds, which can help reduce waste.
In collaboration with Eve Systems, a prominent smart home device provider based in Germany and part of ABB, Motionblinds has introduced Matter-over-Thread technology to their motors. The partnership has resulted in the testing and certification of Eve Motionblinds, which can be identified by the “powered by Eve” badge. Additionally, Motionblinds that utilize Bluetooth and 433MHz technology are being certified under the Works with Home Assistant program via the Motionblinds Matter Bridge (CM-55). This allows a broader range of products to connect locally with Home Assistant.
The certification of Home Assistant with Matter ensures that devices work locally and are supported long-term. The devices certified to work with Home Assistant include a variety of shades and blinds, such as Roller Shades, Double Roller Shades, Venetian Blinds, Honeycomb Shades, Curtains, Pleated Shades, Vertical Blinds, Roman Shades, and an Upgrade Kit for Roller Blinds. These devices connect directly to Home Assistant via Matter, either through the “powered by Eve” option or in combination with the Matter bridge.
