NETGEAR, Inc. has introduced the latest version of its NETGEAR Armor service, now powered by Bitdefender. This cybersecurity service is available as a subscription on Orbi mesh systems and Nighthawk routers. It is designed to protect Internet of Things (IoT) and mobile devices connected to home networks, as well as those in use outside the home. According to a recent report by NETGEAR and Bitdefender, home network devices face an average of 10 attacks every day. While many routers offer built-in security, this protection often does not extend to connected devices, which can leave vulnerabilities that cybercriminals may exploit. As smart home devices increase in number, there is a growing need for comprehensive cybersecurity solutions.

NETGEAR Armor aims to address these cybersecurity challenges by offering a unified solution that provides protection against various threats under one subscription. Recent studies, such as one commissioned by AV Comparatives, confirm Armor’s effectiveness in defending against denial of service and brute force attacks. The service is also recognized for its strengths in endpoint protection, malicious website detection, and overall router security.

Shalini Sengupta, senior product manager at NETGEAR, emphasizes the growing consumer demand for integrated security and privacy tools. Many users currently rely on multiple subscriptions for security, which can be costly. NETGEAR Armor seeks to provide a consolidated solution from a trusted brand. Ciprian Istrate from Bitdefender adds that their collaboration with NETGEAR aims to enhance security and privacy by blocking threats before they reach home devices.

NETGEAR Armor is compatible with most NETGEAR WiFi systems and routers. It employs advanced AI to automatically scan connected devices for vulnerabilities and threats. Users can monitor recent scans, blocked attacks, and receive security recommendations through the Orbi and Nighthawk app interfaces. The Armor mobile app is available for Mac, Windows, Android, and iOS, offering protection on up to 50 devices, including features such as VPN access, web protection, scam alerts, and account privacy monitoring.

In response to consumer feedback, NETGEAR has streamlined subscription management by incorporating extended warranty and 24/7 priority tech support into the Armor service. The extended warranty covers repairs and accidental damage, while priority tech support provides around-the-clock access to NETGEAR experts.

NETGEAR has also launched Armor Plus, an enhanced service tier that includes unlimited VPN access for up to 50 devices, adblocking, and anti-tracking capabilities. These additional features aim to improve privacy and WiFi performance. NETGEAR Armor and Armor Plus are currently available to Orbi and Nighthawk users.
