Roborock, a prominent company in home robotics, has announced a firmware update that enhances the Matter protocol across several of its premium robot vacuum models. The Matter protocol, established by the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA), is a universal smart home standard aimed at integrating devices across different brands and platforms. Roborock’s adoption of Matter demonstrates its commitment to ensuring that its robot vacuums can communicate with other smart home devices seamlessly and securely.
The firmware update, scheduled for April 1-10, 2025, will expand Matter protocol support on a range of Roborock devices. This update is expected to improve the user experience by enhancing connectivity with various platforms like Apple Home, Google Home, and Amazon Alexa. The specific models receiving this update include the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, Roborock Saros Z70, Saros 10, Saros 10R, Qrevo Curv, Qrevo Edge, and Qrevo Master. Users are advised to be patient for the update, as its arrival will depend on different time zones.
With the new firmware, owners of these Matter-compatible devices will be able to control their Roborock robot vacuum cleaners through the Home app on Apple devices such as iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Apple TV, HomePod, or Mac. However, it is important to note that Matter-related functionality may vary depending on the specific Roborock device and the ecosystem it is integrated with. Roborock aims to continuously upgrade its Matter-related firmware to further improve user experience with all major platforms that support Matter.
Roborock also plans to extend Matter compatibility to more devices within its product lineup. The Roborock S8 Max Ultra and Qrevo Slim are expected to receive support in the coming weeks and months. This expansion reinforces Roborock’s position in the smart home sector by ensuring that more of its products can integrate with Matter.
Starting immediately, users can control compatible Roborock robot vacuum cleaners with the Home app on Apple devices. For instance, the Roborock S8MaxV Ultra, which is certified to work with Apple Home, can be integrated into custom automations, allowing users to schedule cleaning tasks or execute commands hands-free via Siri.
