PulteGroup, a prominent homebuilding company in the United States, has conducted a pilot program utilizing robotic-assisted construction technology. This initiative took place in the DiVosta community of TerraWalk at Babcock Ranch, recognized as the first solar-powered town in America. The project was carried out in collaboration with FBR, an Australian company, using their Hadrian X system. This system employs artificial intelligence to guide a robotic arm, which constructs structural walls from concrete blocks within a single day. The adhesive used for bonding the blocks is reported to be twice as strong as traditional mortar.
The TerraWalk project is one of only ten homes in the United States built using this advanced AI-assisted construction method. PulteGroup has emphasized its commitment to incorporating new technologies aimed at improving efficiency in homebuilding. According to Matt Koart, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of PulteGroup, the industry faces challenges related to labor shortages and the demand for more efficient and sustainable construction methods. The company aims to integrate technology that can enhance construction quality and safety, while delivering high-quality homes to customers.
PulteGroup’s use of artificial intelligence and robotics in building the structural walls of this home aligns with its goal to improve construction processes. This method is designed to enhance safety, reduce waste, and accelerate construction timelines. The successful implementation of this technology suggests potential for wider application in automated homebuilding across the country.
Josh Graeve, Southwest Florida Division President of PulteGroup, highlighted the significance of the TerraWalk community in Southwest Florida as a testing ground for new homebuilding technologies. The initial test of FBR’s building system is part of PulteGroup’s mission to make high-quality homes more affordable and to push the boundaries of residential construction possibilities.
This robotic construction initiative is part of PulteGroup’s efforts at Babcock Ranch to test and refine new technologies and construction methods. The company’s Innovation Way living laboratory is involved in various projects, including sustainable building practices, smart home automation, and energy solutions like the Ford F-150 Lightning power backup.
