Samsung SmartThings has announced new advancements in artificial intelligence technology at its Unpacked event. The company is introducing AI tools aimed at enhancing everyday life through SmartThings’ vision of making advanced technology accessible to all. This initiative focuses on security, user-friendliness, cost-efficiency, and family care, with the goal of creating personalized experiences tailored to individual household needs.

SmartThings is introducing Home AI, a feature that uses insights from daily activities to offer customized solutions for household management. The aim is to create smarter living spaces that adapt to the user’s lifestyle. By implementing advanced sensor technology, SmartThings can recognize daily activities such as cooking, exercising, and sleeping to optimize the home environment. This new technology securely collects and analyzes data within the home network.

The ambient sensing technology includes human detection and activity monitoring, where sensors detect activities like exercises or working at a desk. The system can suggest routines and set optimal environments for these activities. For health insights, SmartThings offers real-time feedback, such as reminding users to move after sitting for long periods. The system can also detect specific exercises and provide guidance on form and duration for better results. Other features include automatic adjustments of home settings, such as lighting and temperature, based on user presence and activities.

SmartThings will also incorporate Gen AI technology to enhance home customization. This will allow users to create a Personalized Map View by capturing images of their space with a smartphone camera. This map enables more intuitive interaction with the smart home, adjusting settings like lighting and temperature according to user proximity to specific areas or objects.

Data privacy and performance are key aspects of these technologies. All information is processed and stored locally on the user’s network, ensuring that data is not stored in the cloud or accessible to third parties without permission. This approach gives users control over their personal information while enjoying the benefits of a smart home.

These technological updates from Samsung SmartThings are scheduled for release in 2025 and 2026. For more information, check out Samsung’s press release here.
