System Administrator Appreciation Day, or SysAdmin Day, is today July 26, 2024. This year marks the 25th annual celebration. The day is designated to recognize the efforts of system administrators and IT departments who ensure network security, maintain computer functionality, and resolve technical issues.
SysAdmin day is to remind folks to recognize the contributions of system administrators who often work long hours, including weekends, to keep systems running smoothly. Often, when IT is working correctly, you don’t even notice their presence. Things just work. This is often not recognized, and instead only the failures when things go wrong are noticed. So taking the time to appreciate your IT team’s work is important.
System Administrator Appreciation Day is an international observance. It serves as an opportunity to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of system administrators. Recommended ways to show appreciation include offering cake and ice cream, coffee and donuts, pizza, cards, gifts, words of gratitude, custom t-shirts, balloons, and confetti. Or beer, depending on your company and team. 🤷♀️
Just don’t pull another global BSOD day like last Friday’s outage.
