Aqara has announced the global release of its new Valve Controller T1, designed to enhance home water management systems. The device aims to bring intelligent control to household water valves and pipes, which are typically not part of home automation systems. Aqara’s introduction of this device at the IFA 2024 event underscores its ongoing focus on improving home safety, reliability, and sustainability.

The Valve Controller T1 is particularly focused on enhancing safety by mitigating potential water leaks. Users can pair the device with water leak sensors to create a personalized water management system. This setup allows for continuous real-time monitoring and automatic shutoff in the event of a potential water leak, reducing the risk of water damage, especially when the homeowner is absent. The device can be controlled remotely or scheduled via a mobile application, and it also allows for manual operation.

Designed to be user-friendly, the Valve Controller T1 is a retrofit device that can be attached to the lever or butterfly handle of most home water valves. It is compatible with DN15, DN20, and DN25 pipes, which are standard sizes for household plumbing. This design does not require major modifications to existing plumbing systems, making it accessible for do-it-yourself projects. The device operates on four AA batteries, making it easy to install in various locations without additional wiring. The use of the low-power Zigbee protocol extends the battery life to approximately two years, offering a cost-effective and low-maintenance solution.

The Valve Controller T1 is designed to integrate with multiple third-party platforms, including Amazon Alexa, Apple Home, Google Home, Home Assistant, Homey, and Samsung SmartThings. This is facilitated through Matter compatibility via an Aqara Matter bridge, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of smart home devices. The device’s reliance on the Zigbee protocol supports reliable local networking, enhancing its responsiveness to potential water threats.

For those interested in incorporating an eco-friendly and practical solution into their smart home systems, the Valve Controller T1 presents a viable option.
