TiVo, a subsidiary of Xperi Inc., has announced its entry into the U.S. television market in collaboration with Sharp Home Electronics Company of America. This move marks a significant development in the expansion of smart TVs powered by TiVo. While TiVo OS is already available in Europe, the collaboration with Sharp marks its introduction to American consumers. The Sharp Smart TV powered by TiVo, featuring a 55-inch QLED screen with Ultra High Definition and High Dynamic Range, is expected to be available in the U.S. by February 2025. This model also includes Dolby Atmos audio and three HDMI ports, reinforcing Sharp’s commitment to quality.

TiVo OS aims to enhance the smart TV experience with its unique approach to content management and discovery. The platform aggregates content from various streaming services, linear TV channels, and sports content into a single user interface. This allows users to organize and access their preferred shows, movies, and live events efficiently. TiVo OS supports numerous popular streaming services, offering access to both free and paid content, thereby broadening the entertainment options available to consumers.

A key feature of the TiVo OS is its advanced search and recommendation system. Utilizing complex algorithms that adapt to individual viewing habits, the platform offers personalized content suggestions. This approach helps ensure that users receive recommendations that match their preferences, making it easier to discover new entertainment options. Additionally, TiVo OS supports natural voice navigation on selected smart TV models, enabling users to find and access content using simple voice commands, thereby simplifying the navigation process.

Ben Maughan, general manager of smart TV and media platform for Xperi, emphasized the importance of this partnership with Sharp in introducing TiVo-powered smart TVs to the U.S. market. Maughan highlighted TiVo’s understanding of viewer needs and how it has developed a platform that simplifies the television experience. Jim Sanduski, President of Sharp Home Electronics Company of America, also expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, noting that TiVo’s system aligns with Sharp’s consumer needs by providing an independent, content-focused platform.

TiVo focuses on bringing various entertainment options together, allowing consumers to find, watch, and enjoy content from live TV, on-demand services, streaming platforms, and numerous apps. For further information, visit TiVo’s press release here.
