Universal Electronics Inc. (UEI) is set to present advancements in its QuickSet 7 SDK Release and QuickSet Cloud services at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas this coming January. QuickSet is a platform that focuses on enhancing entertainment and smart home experiences by integrating multiple communication protocols into a single software package. This facilitates the control of a variety of smart devices within a home environment.
QuickSet 7 builds on previous successes with Smart TV brands by expanding monetization opportunities (ads) through personalization and engagement. It now supports a broader array of content sources and categories related to video and audio consumption. The platform aims to improve monetization by targeting audiences more effectively, which in turn enhances brand awareness and engagement on larger screens.
The new version of QuickSet introduces smart home as a service platform capabilities, including OpenThread Border Router Host services and improvements to the Matter Controller. These improvements support Multi-Admin, Matter Bridge, and Zigbee Coordinator services. The QuickSet Cloud complements QuickSet 7 by enhancing device fingerprinting and discovery through AI technology. This framework supports device discovery, control, and personalization for all home devices. QuickSet Cloud currently processes billions of device discovery requests annually, and regular updates to AI models enable new smart home use cases.
One notable feature of QuickSet Cloud is its support for the QuickSet Widget family, encompassing the new UE72Y and UE72X models. These modules provide connectivity and computing solutions for various home appliances. The latest version incorporates Edge AI processing, video stream decoding, and a smart home dashboard using QuickSet homeSense Technology. QuickSet 7 introduces QuickSet homeSense technology, which adapts to home environments to offer personalized experiences in energy management, entertainment, and advertising. This technology is designed to protect user privacy by performing tasks on-device.
QuickSet 7 and QuickSet Cloud support various communication protocols, including Wi-Fi, Zigbee, Bluetooth, Thread, and Infrared. This compatibility extends interactions with a wide range of smart home devices and ecosystems. The platform’s device knowledge graph includes over 25 million unique fingerprints from nearly 1 million devices representing 13,000 consumer brands. This dataset supports AI models that deliver services through QuickSet Cloud. Additionally, QuickSet includes control engines that enable discovery and control of entertainment and smart home devices via standard or proprietary protocols.
QuickSet Cloud offers interoperability as a service, addressing compatibility and integration challenges for manufacturers. This service ensures products remain compatible with existing hubs, smart speakers, and home automation platforms. The platform combines edge intelligence with cloud scalability, which includes secure cloud communications, remote access, offline control, and a dashboard for managing network devices. QuickSet 7 further supports learning from device activity in the home, providing targeted recommendations based on video and audio content habits.
Pre-integration with nevo.ai allows QuickSet to support ongoing services on connected devices such as Smart TVs, thermostats, and hubs. These enhancements offer proactive recommendations and address new use cases. QuickSet SDK and QuickSet Cloud aim to integrate and manage smart home devices for a user-friendly experience, merging entertainment with smart home functionalities.
