Universal Electronics Inc. (UEI) has introduced QuickSet homeSense technology, a new advancement in smart home functionality. This technology will be presented at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas in January. QuickSet homeSense was initially released as part of the QuickSet 7 Software Development Kit (SDK) and aims to enhance the smart home experience by incorporating on-device intelligence. This technology is designed to adapt to user behavior and changes in the home environment, making homes more intuitive.
QuickSet homeSense is developed to understand the home environment and adjusts to the habits of the occupants by using advanced wireless capabilities. It can detect occupancy and presence, which helps in personalizing automation and entertainment within the home. For example, the technology can recognize when a user is nearby and adjust heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) settings to their preferences. It can also switch the home mode to ‘away’ when no one is present, which assists in energy management and enhancing security.
When combined with the QuickSet 7’s rules-engine, QuickSet homeSense can process data from a wide range of home devices and sensors along with user preferences to make decisions for home automation tasks. This includes adjusting heating and cooling, controlling fan speeds, personalizing entertainment experiences, and managing lighting and other devices based on real-time data and user habits. This technology plays a significant role in energy management, offering features like automated energy management and personalized HVAC settings based on user proximity and behavior.
QuickSet homeSense operates with on-device offline rules and automations, which allows it to function without constant internet connectivity. It also includes app-less occupancy detection, simplifying user interaction while maintaining privacy. The technology considers relative device placement and user movement to optimize energy management and personalize user experiences, ensuring energy-saving actions are tailored to room or home occupancy signals.
QuickSet homeSense is available as part of the QuickSet 7 SDK or integrated with the QuickSet Widget Wireless Module Family and the UEI TIDE Smart Climate Control Family. It is offered as a software-only solution to QuickSet customers or as a turnkey product in climate control and home automation markets.
